Upcoming Webinar (in German): Legal Implications of Genetic Engineering Deregulation for the Food Industry

News

A recently published legal opinion on the European Commission’s plans to deregulate new GMOs or New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) has shed light on a very significant shift in the burdens that the EU’s food industry will face should the law come into force as it currently stands. Learn more in a webinar on 30th of January.

On 30th January 2025 from 10:30 to 12:00 CET Dr. Georg Buchholz, lawyer at the Berlin law firm GGSC and author of the new legal opinion will present the main findings.

Dr. Buchholz’s legal analysis, commissioned by VLOG, sheds light on significant and previously overlooked consequences of the EU Commission’s legal proposal, including safety tests and liability risks which will be transferred to food companies. These changes could unfairly shift costs and burdens from biotech firms to food producers.

This non-public webinar is co-hosted by VLOG, ENGA, and ARGE Gentechnik-frei. It is open to members, licensees, and companies that supported the open letter “Food Industry for Freedom of Choice.” The session will also explore potential ways business can collaborate to address these challenges, as well as a Q&A with Dr. Buchholz.
