Under the theme “Market Update and Developments in Sustainability”, the conference provided a packed one-day programme of high-level talks, data-driven presentations, and lively discussions which emphasised the sector’s strength and unity in the face of global challenges.
The day began with opening remarks from Alexander Hissting, Managing Director of the German Association Food without Genetic Engineering (VLOG), who underlined the importance of resilient Non-GMO supply chains for Europe’s food system.
In a recorded video message, Taras Vysotskyi, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, reaffirmed Ukraine’s role as a reliable and sustainable partner for deforestation-free, Non-GMO soy. He highlighted the potential of a joint European protein platform to support farmers and ensure food system resilience—even in times of geopolitical uncertainty.
The keynote speech by Robert Suter (ISEAL) explored how the regulatory landscape is evolving and how the sector can stay ahead through strong certification, transparency, and alignment with global standards.
Certification, Traceability and Regional Cooperation
In the second session of the day, representatives from Donau Soja and ProTerra discussed how robust sustainability standards—from Non-GMO production and traceability to due diligence—can deliver environmental, economic and social value. They made the case that regional cooperation and innovation are essential for building resilient, deforestation-free and Non-GMO food systems, which in turn support Europe’s protein self-sufficiency and food security.
This was followed by a panel on the role of regional crushers, exploring how processing capacity, local investment and stable certification frameworks are essential to building sustainable soy supply chains across Brazil, the EU, and Ukraine. The consensus: success depends on collaboration, linking farmers, processors and buyers around shared sustainability goals.
Market Insights and Europe’s Protein Transition
Session 3 turned the spotlight on the global Non-GMO soy market, offering fresh data and insights on supply, sourcing trends, and trade dynamics. Speakers emphasised that industry and retailer commitments to Non-GMO and deforestation-free sourcing remain strong, even as regulatory contexts shift.
Certification systems such as those from Donau Soja and ProTerra were recognised as already exceeding EUDR requirements, ensuring conversion-free, traceable, and credible Non-GMO supply chains for both feed and food. The discussions reinforced that certification, transparency and multi-stakeholder cooperation are essential for maintaining consumer trust and driving Europe’s protein transition.
Looking Ahead
Moderated throughout the day by journalist and author Tanja Busse, the conference created space for candid dialogue and connection. As the demand for sustainable and transparent food systems grows, the conference reaffirmed that the Non-GMO sector is optimistic about the future.
We’re already looking ahead to the Non-GMO Summit 2026 (13th May 2026, Frankfurt), which will continue the conversation and strengthen collaboration across the international community.
