ENGA Newsletter No. 34: May 2026

Dear Readers,

Just in time for the Non-GMO Summit, which takes place tomorrow in Frankfurt am Main, we are publishing two important reports: The Non-GMO Market Report, produced in collaboration with Donau Soja and ProTerra Foundation, on the availability of the key Non-GMO crops – soy, maize and rapeseed – and the New GMOs Market Report, produced in cooperation with the Non-GMO Project and semnar, on New GMOs currently in cultivation and under development.

The latest ENGA Non-GMO report highlights shifting supply dynamics, rising price sensitivity to energy and geopolitics, and continued pressure on maize production. ENGA’s recommendation to Non-GMO operators: Sourcing, regional availability and import dependence require close attention in the months ahead.

ENGA’s second New GMOs Market Report highlights the growing gap between hype and market reality, with only four New GMO crops currently cultivated worldwide. At the same time, deregulation is continuing globally, including in the EU, where the vote in the European Parliament plenary on the deregulation of new GMOs (or New Genomic Techniques, NGTs) is expected to take place in June.

If you cannot join us at the Non-GMO Summit in Frankfurt, here you can follow the livestream.

New report highlights gap between New GMO hype and global market reality

ENGA’s second New GMOs Market Report, published with the Non-GMO Project and semnar, highlights the growing gap between promises and market reality, with only four New GMO crops currently cultivated worldwide. At the same time, deregulation is continuing globally, often removing traceability and labelling requirements, while resistance from farmers and civil society is increasing. These findings will be at the centre of discussions at the Non-GMO Summit, taking place tomorrow (13 May) in Frankfurt.

EU Non-GMO crop markets remain supplied, but regional soy imbalances and tighter maize flows persist

EU Non-GMO crop markets remain broadly supplied, but conditions are diverging across crops, with uneven soy availability, tighter maize flows and comparatively comfortable rapeseed supply. The latest ENGA market report, produced in collaboration with Donau Soja and ProTerra Foundation, highlights shifting supply dynamics, rising price sensitivity to energy and geopolitics, and continued pressure on maize production. For Non-GMO operators, sourcing, regional availability and import dependence require close attention in the months ahead.
